As members of RSS, we strive to live up to our motto: "Scholarship, Service, and Leadership." But what does this mean?
By scholarship, we refer to the multiple RSS-hosted professional events, which bolster UCLA's already impressive academic environment. We have hosted research fairs, where students can become more aware of the amazing work done jointly by our scholars and faculty. At our annual alumni mixers, our students have gotten a chance to connect with scholars who fill a massive variety of careers And recently, RSS began producing the SPIEL speaker series, which gives all current UCLA undergraduates a chance to give powerful talks and presentations about issues and discoveries.
By service, we refer to our extensive community service programs. Indeed, as is expected of Bruins, RSS members are dedicated to serving our fellow Los Angelenos. Our main community service program is LAMP (the Los Angeles Mentorship Program). A tutoring partnership with the local University High School, LAMP holds SAT preparation courses and workshops on the college application process. RSS also holds bimonthly service partnerships with other clubs at UCLA, such as a beach clean-up with UCLA's E3 student group.
But the strongest aspect of RSS is neither the professional nor service aspect. Rather, we have cultivated an environment where students can fulfill their potential as leaders. Our past leaders have made RSS fun, productive, and social. Each batch of new executive boarders and committee members are sworn to both uphold and develop this great environment. By taking charge of events like the ever popular Winter Retreat or our annual Spring Banquet, students get a chance to develop their leadership abilities while working with their family away from home.
So, if you are an incoming or current UCLA Regents Scholar, come join us! Perhaps explore the rest of this website to see more about what we do. If you like what you see, come to a general meeting, or if you're a prospective student, visit us during the Overnight Stay Program! And if our activities and programs don't intrigue you, feel free to suggest ones that do! The best part of RSS is that we as students make all the decisions regarding our organization. We hope you enjoy your experience as a Regents Scholar and a Bruin!
